Navarra gets national centre

A national Renewable Energies Technology Centre is to be founded in Navarra following an agreement between the central government, the regional government of Navarra and CIEMAT, the state run science and technology body. With a budget of ESP 2600 million (EUR 15.6 million) up to 2003, "the centre will concentrate on R&D in the areas of wind, solar, biomass and bioclimatic architecture," says Pablo Ayesa from Navarra's technological agency, which is responsible for setting up the centre. Ayesa adds it will also promote and develop renewables technologies, as well as nurture collaboration among the public and private sectors. The centre is scheduled to open by 2002.
