German Renewable Energy Enterprises (GREE) is creating a prominent profile for north German-based renewable energy companies on the international stage by taking stands at a series of international power and renewable exhibitions in the coming months. With the PowerGen '96 Asia event in New Delhi in mid September under its belt, GREE is heading for venues in Manila in the Philippines and Peking in China in October followed by Saigon and Hanoi in southern and northern Vietnam in November. GREE was set up in July 1995 on the initiative of the wind energy department, WING, of the Schleswig-Holstein investment bank. Its aim is to promote the interests of renewable energy companies in expanding export markets. Among its members are wind companies Jacobs Energie, Husumer Schiffswerft, GET-Danwin, Aerodyn Energiesysteme and, as an associate, Windtest Kaiser-Wilhelm-Koog. "We find there is a lot of interest in renewable energies from both government's and utilities in developing countries," comments Dieter Markward from WING. He adds: "There is a huge need for small turbines working in conjunction with diesel generators and photovoltaic units in stand-alone systems for villages."
