Trend of strong support from locals

The results of Britain's most recent public opinion survey follow the well-established trend of showing strong local support for wind farms. Sixty-eight per cent of people questioned around National Wind Power's Novar wind farm in the Scottish Highlands support it, reports NWP's Kristina Freris. This figure includes 32% who "strongly" support it. Only 3% are opposed, while 29% express no opinion. The results reveal that 70% of residents surveyed say the wind turbines are "acceptable" in the landscape. Moreover, most are able to think of benefits to the area as a result of the wind farm; none believe that house prices have been adversely affected or that the number of people visiting the area has decreased. The survey was carried out by independent market researchers Robertson Bell Associates. "Every single survey conducted to date shows overwhelming support for wind energy," claims Freris. "Let's not keep this to ourselves."
