UN evaluates wind and solar resource in 13 developing countries
The UN Environment Program (UNEP) is organising a solar and wind energy assessment project for around 13 developing countries. The project, to begin in September, includes drawing up a wind energy resource atlas from existing data for a number of pilot countries including China, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Cuba and Brazil. UNEP is being assisted by a number of organisations, including German aid organisation Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt, and Denmark's national laboratory at Risø, reports GTZ's Jasper Abramowski.
