Pennsylvania is investing $10 million in a pair of grant programs intended to create new clean energy projects. Half the money will fund grants from the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority (PEDA) and the other half goes to the Pennsylvania Energy Harvest Grant Program. The Energy Harvest Grants are aimed at protecting air or water quality in the state, while the PEDA grants will go toward capital costs of projects that involve solar, methane gas and wind. PEDA has previously awarded $15 million for 41 projects and the Energy Harvest Grant Program has funded $15.9 million for more than 100 clean energy projects. The plan was announced by Governor Ed Rendell in early May and the application deadline is July 14. Pennsylvania is committed to producing 18% of its energy from renewables by 2020.
