Sweden's first wind turbine supplied by German company Enercon has gone up outside Ystad in Skåne. It was erected by the state owned utility Vattenfall with the intention of selling power to the national rail company, SJ, for its recently electrified line from Malmö to Ystad. This contract, though, has since gone to utility Sydkraft instead. Sydkraft has no wind turbine on line since it felled Sweden's Maglarp jumbo several years ago, but now has every intention of buying one to fulfil the terms of the rail line contract. As well as stipulating that electricity must come from wind energy, the contract also requires the wind plant to be visible from the train. Electric and natural gas fuelled cars at the stations in Malmö and Ystad are also part of SJ's contract. The rail company has been working hard on its green image.
