FIRST WIND FARM IN MOROCCO

A Franco-Danish group, Tramantona-Vestas, has won a bid in Morocco to jointly construct a $60 million wind farm. Morocco's state-owned electricity company, the Office National de l'Electricite (ONE), announces that France will finance the 50 MW project, to be sited in Tetouan in northern Morocco. ONE says the plant, part of its strategy to develop renewables and move away from hydro because of drought, will cut fuel oil imports by 46,000 tonnes yearly at a saving of $10 million. Tramantona-Vestas will operate the plant, which will be linked to the national grid.
