Guangxi Yinhe Avantis Wind Power Company, a subsidiary of China's Changzheng Electric, will supply 80, 2.5 MW wind turbines to Huadian New Energy Development Company under a framework agreement signed in late January. With a combined capacity of 200 MW, the machines will be installed at the Xichang wind farm, Beihai, in the southern province of Guangxi, providing the project gets the final go-ahead from government. Yinhe Avantis says it is developing the 2.5 MW direct-drive, pitch-controlled and variable-speed turbine in cooperation with Avantis Energy Consultants, a company with German origins. The prototype machine is expected to be ready by June and will be equipped with 44 metre blades from Germany. Yinhe Avantis aims to produce around 15 units before the end of 2008. Output will increase to 50-70 units next year rising to over 200 by 2010, it says. Meanwhile, if the Xichang project proceeds it will double Huadian's installed wind capacity. The company hopes to increase its project development rate, aiming for 400 MW of new wind plant additions each year for the next three years.
