EDF commissions first plant up in designated wind zone
EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF EN), the renewable energy arm of French utility EDF, commissioned a 50.6 MW project last month at Villesèque-des-Corbières in the Aude département of southern France. Enercon supplied the 22 2.3 MW turbines. The plant is the first to be completed in a designated wind power development zone, known as a ZDE. For the past year, only wind plants built within a ZDE are eligible for the guaranteed premium purchase price EDF is obliged to pay for the electricity produced. Ville-sèque is the first in a run of what are big wind farms for France EDF EN is bringing online this year. Next up is 52 MW at Chemin d'Ablis, in the Eure-et-Loire, and 87 MW at Salles-Curan in the Aveyron. The company currently has 483.6 MW wind power capacity in service or under construction in France.
