First power flows from Whitelee 322 MW
Power has begun to flow from what will be Europe's largest onshore wind farm when complete. Towards the end of last month, 22 turbines were up and feeding electricity into the national grid from ScottishPower's 322 MW Whitelee project on Eaglesham Moor south of Glasgow. Construction started in October 2006 and all 140 Siemens machines will be fully operational in 2009. ScottishPower, a subsidiary of Spanish Iberdrola, the world's leading wind power owner, has also unveiled plans for a multi-million pound wind farm visitor centre for the site.
