OUTLOOK IMPROVING
Ontario Hydro has elicited an enthusiastic initial response to its "Round 1" request for 60 MW of renewables proposals (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, June 1995). The public utility received 38 wind power proposals for 190 MW, representing more than six times the 28 MW allocated to wind. The other categories are wood and biomass, anaerobic digestion and sewage gas, and hybrid and other innovative technologies. Projects will be shortlisted by September 11. Ontario Hydro's Brian Kelly says at least one contract award is expected per category, with no more than one project from a single proponent. He also says Hydro could raise the ceilings in one or more technology category. Projects must be on line before 1998.
