Lake Benton named a Power Engineering project of the year

Power Engineering Magazine has named the Lake Benton I wind project in Minnesota as one of its two 1999 "Projects of the Year." The announcement was made recently in New Orleans at the Power-Gen International trade show. Owned by Enron Wind, part of the Houston based energy giant Enron Corp, the 107.25 MW wind farm was completed in July 1998. At that time it was the world's largest single wind energy project. Electricity from the 143 Z-750 Series wind turbines is sold to utility Northern States Power of Minneapolis, Minnesota. The other winner was the Mid-Georgia Cogen Plant. Both projects were chosen by an independent panel of judges.
