SeaWest “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Inc and the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), the Northwest federal power broker, are working to lower the cost of a 24.6 MW wind farm the US developer has proposed to build near Condon in northern Oregon (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, July 2000). The reported project cost of about $0.07/kWh includes the cost of power that would be needed to fill in behind the project when the wind does not blow. BPA's George Darr says both parties have discussed increasing the size of the project as one way to bring the cost down. Dave Roberts of SeaWest says an Oregon law allows projects to grow without slowing the permitting process. Although the environmental impact statement has been delayed by recent negotiations, both BPA and SeaWest say the project is still on target for a year end completion.
