Goldwind funds Germany's Vensys 1.5 MW turbine production

German turbine design company Vensys, now 70% owned by China's leading turbine supplier Goldwind, expects to start production next year of its 1.5 MW direct drive machines for the European market from a facility in Neuenkirchen, near Saarbrücken in south-west Germany. Vensys will assemble about 30 turbines in 2009, ramping up to at least 50 units in 2010, which will be a mix of the 1.5 MW unit and a 2.5 MW machine. A prototype of the 2.5 MW model will be installed near Saarbrücken at the start of 2009. In China, Goldwind already has three manufacturing facilities for the machine and plans to build a fourth, adds Vensys, to bring production capacity to around 450, 1.5 MW machines in 2008. Even prior to its share acquisition, Goldwind's licence agreement with Vensys was to build both the 1.5 MW and 2.5 MW models in China. The company was expected to pay EUR 41.42 million for the 70% stake in Vensys (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, March 2007), but that has not been confirmed.
