Borderwind's plans for four wind turbines at Great Eppleton, Tyne & Wear have been thrown out by local planners. Hetton and Houghton district councillors narrowly rejected the 3 MW scheme by just five votes to four. Visual impact of the 750 kW WindMaster turbines on the skyline was the main concern. However, according to Sandra Painter of Borderwind, the site was in a degraded area, previously given over to mining. She says Borderwind will almost certainly appeal against the decision.
