This year's conference was the first to run emissions-free, at least symbolically. Enmax Energy, a Calgary utility, donated 2900 kWh of wind power, enough to power the conference over four days. Enmax bought the power from the Alberta producers that supply its Greenmax program, under which customers can choose to pay a premium on their electricity bills to receive green power. At the conference, Enmax received an award from CanWEA for its pioneering green power marketing efforts. Parliament Hill also operated emissions-free for a day during the conference, thanks to CanWEA and its event sponsors. CanWEA president Fred Gallagher presented Natural Resources Minister Ralph Goodale with 30,000 kWh of what CanWEA calls "renewable energy certificates-equivalent."
