Emissions credit market assessment
Interest in emissions trading is growing fast and the US wind industry is preparing to meet the challenge. The National Wind Co-ordinating Committee (NWCC), a collaborative group in Washington DC, is seeking bids for a consultant to assess the emissions credit market for wind players. Tantalisingly, the committee's RFP, issued in April, gives a hint of an upcoming emissions deal. It says consultants will have to quantify and document real-world wind projects participating in emissions reductions or carbon trading programs -- such as "Northern States Power, Enron Wind Corp, SeaWest and Vision Quest Windelectric." Neither Enron Wind, America's largest turbine manufacturer, nor the Minnesota utility NSP have announced any emissions deal -- yet. Vision Quest in Canada recently completed its first trade (“uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç, May 2000).
