Portugal's fast expanding wind market has brought new turbine contracts for Denmark's Vestas and Spain's Gamesa. Vestas has announced a EUR 60 million turnkey contract to supply 26, 3 MW machines -- together with monitoring systems and electrical infrastructure -- for the 78 MW Serro dos Caneeiros project, owned by the country's leading developer, Enersis. The project is not only the largest to go ahead in Portugal but also marks Vestas' biggest single deal to date for its 3 MW machine. Vestas says delivery will continue into 2005. Meanwhile, Gamesa has clinched a EUR 8 million deal with developer Tecneira, an affiliate of Portuguese industrial group Procme. The contract -- Gamesa's second for Portugal -- covers the supply and installation of six 2 MW machines for Tecneira's 12 MW Fanhoes project in the Lisbon region. In April this year, Tecneira signed a EUR 13 million deal for nine Gamesa 2 MW turbines, which are going up at Amaral I (8 MW) and Caldas I (10 MW), also in Lisbon. Gamesa says that by the end of the year it will have started construction of 128 MW in Portugal using its 2 MW turbine.
