Spain's Gamesa Eólica has signed two framework deals for turbine sales totalling 544 MW, one from Iberdrola, and the other from the Spanish arm of Novas Energías de Occidente (NEO Energías), a wind developer controlled by Portuguese utility Energías de Portugal. All machines are for developments in Spain. NEO's EUR 225 million order for 264 MW is "a firm contract, though with flexibility regarding the exact location of the turbines and timing of final delivery, within the end-2009 deadline," says NEO's Javier Mateache. The order will only meet a fraction of NEO's requirement for turbines in Spain over the next two years. In Castile and León, eight NEO projects totalling 279 MW have won approval and the company has advanced projects for 270 MW in Andalucía, 150 MW in Galicia, 70 MW in Asturias and 50 MW in Castile La Mancha, among others. Over 2006, Mateache says the Spanish division connected 353 MW -- just over 22% of Spain's new capacity last year. NEO's order from Iberdrola, Gamesa's single biggest shareholder, is valued at EUR 250 million and is for turbines for a series of permitted projects totalling 280 MW that Gamesa will build across Asturias and Castile. They were developed by Iberdrola's wind firm, Ibereólica.
