Spanish utility Iberdrola has commissioned its first wind plant in Poland. Its second in the country is due for completion soon and its third is under construction. The three projects have a combined capacity of just under 128 MW. Last month saw commissioning of the 40.5 MW Kisielice plant of 27 GE 1.5 MW turbines in the northeast province of Warminsko-Mazurskie. Iberdrola's 18 MW Malbork development uses the same machines and is "the final stages of building," says the company, while the 69 MW Karscino project, due for connection before the end of the year, is using 1.5 MW turbines from Germany's Fuhrländer. As part of its global expansion strategy, Iberdrola, the world's leading wind plant operator, entered the Polish market in 2005 by acquiring local developer MVV Eternegy Polska. The subsidiary, renamed Iberdrola Energía Odnawialna, has a development portfolio in Poland of 800 MW.
