Weier Elektromotorenwerk of Eutin, creator of the "opti-slip" design generators now standard in Vestas turbines, celebrated its 50th anniversary on December 5. The company is proud of the fact that it was one of the first manufacturers of generators to supply the wind industry. The company also makes electronic controls for wind turbines as well as water cooled generators for small combined heat and power plant, direct current motors and motors for use in extreme conditions. Over the last 12 years the company has grown from 90 employees with sales of DEM 6 million to 150 employees with sales of DEM 30 million last year. In 1996 DEM 2 million is to be spent on reducing production costs.
