MARKET SLOW DOWN HITS INDUSTRY
Planning problems, delays in licensing procedures and investment uncertainties arising from utility attempts to undermine the Electricity Feed Law are putting a nasty dent in the upward sweep of Germany's wind development curve. One company feeling the pinch is Tacke Windtechnik. Managing director Markus Tacke reports that after his company enjoyed a 100% growth in sales in 1994, followed by a 70% increase in 1995, the 1996 figure will probably stick at last year's level of around 130 MW. To adjust to the slower growth rate, Tacke fired 40 of the 219 employed at its Salzbergen works and headquarters at the end of April. Danish company Micon tells a similar story. Its German agent, Dieter Fries, also anticipates a 10-20% contraction this year in Germany.
