Alberta developer seeks joint venture
Two Vestas 1.8 MW turbines have been installed in Alberta by Calgary's Alberta Wind Energy Corporation (AWEC) as part of the company's 50.4 MW Oldman River Wind Energy Project, to be built on 1600 acres in the Pincher Creek area once transmission lines are in place. The company has leased another 2800 acres adjacent to the site where it plans to install a further 60-75 MW. "We've reached the stage now where to fully develop this project it is going to be in the neighbourhood of C$100 million for the first phase. The second phase I'll guess at C$130-140 million, so we are going to need some major partners," says AWEC director Doug Amy. "We've been approached by some very major companies. We don't want to sell out. We would prefer to joint venture."
