Cold climate turbines come off the production line
The first four 1.5 MW turbines designed and manufactured by China's Dongfang Steam Turbine Works (DSTW) for operation in cold climates came off the production line in September. The machines are based on technology from Germany's Repower, which has a technology transfer agreement with DSTW. A key feature of the turbine is its ability to work normally at minus 35 degrees Centigrade, says the company. The turbines are the first of 33 machines of a 50 MW wind farm being developed in Hulunbeir Prefecture in Inner Mongolia by Guohua Energy Investment Corporation. All units are to be delivered by the end of the year. DSTW is one of four Chinese turbine manufacturers to have secured one of the latest large wind concession projects offered by the state government (page 27).
