GET Gesellschaft für Energietechnik installed the first five of a new version of its 600 kW, GET41 wind turbine shortly before Christmas. Four went in the ground in Windpark Ellenstedt, in the district of Vechta in Lower Saxony and a fifth at Windpark Nienstadt in the district of Sangerhausen in Saxony Anhalt. The GET41a's main departure from the GET 41 is a new type of blade, the ARA blade, developed in a joint effort by German consultants Aerodyn and rotor blade manufacturers Abeking & Rasmussen. The new blade has been especially developed for active stall operation in inland areas. Active stall was developed by GET for its GET 41 machine. The turbine manufacturer, based in Rendsburg in the north of Germany, says the characteristics of active stall operation are now being adjusted to the newly developed ARA blades on the recently installed machines. The idea behind the new development is to improve output at low wind speeds and to iron out differences in output experienced when air temperatures change and during different levels of dirt build-up on the blades.
