Retailer to buy all power from Lake Bonney project

New South Wales electricity retailer Country Energy will buy all the energy produced from the 80.5 MW Stage 1 Lake Bonney wind farm, being developed in South Australia by Babcock & Brown “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç. The Stage 1 development will consist of 46 Vestas 1.75 MW turbines. Construction will begin this month, with completion by the end of November 2004. Generation will commence as early as July 2004, as turbines are commissioned. In total, it will provide enough power to supply 40,000 homes. A second stage of development is also planned, which will make Lake Bonney the largest in Australia with around 200 MW connected to the national grid, says Miles George of Babcock & Brown. Stage two is expected to be completed by mid-2005.
