Turbine development company Multibrid Entwicklungsgesellschaft has begun installation of its prototype 5 MW turbine, eventually destined for offshore use. The lower tower segment for the turbine was put in place at an onshore site in Bremerhaven, where Multibrid is based, last month. The machine, currently being assembled at the Motorenwerke Bremerhaven works at the port, is to be commissioned in the summer. After a test period, the M5000 turbines will be put to use offshore at parent company Prokon Nord's planned wind station, Borkum West in the North Sea, due for construction in 2006. The Prokon Nord Group is based in Leer.
