The green spin-off debate

Nineteen-ninety-seven started with a big bang as Enron Corp of Texas, in the poetic words of one industry observer, "inhaled" Zond Corp, the ailing US wind industry's leading company and one of the few remaining in wind in America. But in the big picture of sweeping deregulation, the Zond take-over is no more than a tiny cameo. The country's century old electricity industry, until relatively recently consisting only of utilities, is undergoing massive changes. Wind is still seeking its role.
