Vestas Spanish orders reach 432 MW

Vestas' announcement last month of two orders totalling 104 MW, to be produced mainly at its new Villadangos del Páramo facility in Castile and León for delivery in 2008, brings its total Spanish orders to 432 MW in 2006, a year in which the country installed around 1300 MW of new wind capacity according to national wind association Asociación Empresarial Eólica (AEE). Vestas will supply, install and commission 47, 2 MW machines for the Parques Eólicos San Lorenzo complex, in Valladolid province, Castile and León. With 1900 MW of wind plant already in operation in Castilla and León and a target for 6000 MW, the region is one of the most promising in Spain, says Vestas. The company claims to have installed 233 MW in the Castile and León to date. Next door, in Spain's dominant wind region of Galicia, the company has clinched a deal with developer Virandel to supply and commission ten 2 MW machines at the Serra do Páramo project in Lugo province. The contract will bring Vestas' cumulative capacity in Galicia to 420 MW.
