WARP most talked about

The unofficial, unanimous vote for "best presentation" at OWEMES went to Günther Weisbrich of American ENECO for his sales pitch of a new concept wind turbine, the WARP. With a bold, charismatic sales pitch, Weisbrich presented the concept of a vertical pole, on which a stack of spinning discs can capture the wind and increase its force, generating power. "Telecommunications towers have a problem with wind. Well, duh!," he said, showing examples of how the turbines could be used on the towers themselves. During a burning round of questions, Weisbrich referred those seeking more information to his absent brother, the brains behind the concept. Session organiser Jos Beurskens called it a "very firm presentation on a very far away concept." Weisbrich admitted later that he was prepared for resistance. "These guys have spent millions on developing wind turbines in one way. Then someone comes along and tells them, hey, here's a better way. They don't want to hear it," Weisbrich said.
