Air pollution and crib deaths
Air pollution may contribute to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) or crib death, says a new US study. Babies in areas with heavy particulate pollution -- often from power plants and vehicles -- are 10% more likely to die from the ailment than are those in places with clean air, according to research by government researchers published by the US National Institutes of Health journal in July. Infant mortality was not previously proven to be linked to particulate pollution.
