Beer manufacturer Asahi Breweries is getting into wind, acquiring a 19% stake in Green Power Aso Company (GPAC), a wind power generation company established in July by Electric Power Development Company. GPAC is constructing a ´490 million, 17.5 MW wind farm comprising ten turbines in the village of Nishihara in Kumamoto Prefecture, western Japan. GPAC will own and manage the wind farm, which will start generating power in February 2005. GPAC plans to float new shares in the company to raise ´430 million for future projects.
