Rajasthan 25 MW wind farm approval attracts private investors
The northwest province of Rajasthan has attracted the first investment in wind power from the private sector with Kalani Industries receiving government approval for a 25 MW wind power project. Work has already started on the project in the western district of Jaisalmer, says an official of the Rajasthan Energy Development Agency. According to the state government, proposals for 236 MW of wind development have been submitted by private sector companies. These are now being evaluated with decisions expected soon. Among the companies who have joined the race are Suzlon Energy, Enercon India, Hindustan Zinc, and Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals. Indian meteorologists say Rajasthan has substantial wind power potential. So far wind resources have been mapped at 26 sites.
