Vestas 2 MW V80 failure blamed on faulty welding
The toppling of a Vestas 2 MW V80 turbine at Schneeberg in Germany on December 18 was caused by a break in the foundation flange after an unauthorised welding. Vestas further says the accident, which caused only material damage, happened during a test of the turbine's emergency stop system. The faulty weld was a one-off incident, says Vestas.
