Microsoft has signed a 335MW long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Clearway Energy Group for all of the output from the repowered Mount Storm wind project in Grant County, West Virginia.
The repowering is to be completed in 2027.
“Mount Storm will support Microsoft’s sustainability and decarbonisation goals by generating carbon-free energy,” Clearway said.
The length of the tech giant’s PPA, and what the electricity will be used for – such as data centres – were not disclosed.
Clearway had announced repowering of the 2008 project in November. The original 264MW project consisted of 132 of Siemens Gamesa’s turbines. They are being replaced by 78 of Vestas’ V117-4.3MW turbines. Clearway claimed this will lead to an 85% increase in Mount Storm’s overall generation.
