Australia to launch 2.2GW offshore wind auction this year

The Australian state of Victoria will launch an offshore wind auction in September this year for 2.2GW of capacity.

Contracts are set to be awarded in the fourth quarter of 2026, according to the announcement from Victoria’s energy and resources minister.

Winning bidders will be supported through contracts for difference (CfDs) for investment certainty and availability payment, which will only be made once the porject is producing electricity. 

A confidential registration of interest is now open ahead of the auction.

Climate action minister for Victoria, Lily D’Ambrosio, said the implementaion of offshore wind power “will create thousands” of jobs, help “keep bills down”, and “support the future” of regional communities.
