Offshore wind veteran Michael Hannibal has joined Stiesdal Offshore as the floating wind technology firm’s new chief commercial officer.
Hannibal joins Stiesdal Offshore from Danish investor Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), where he will remain a partner.
He started his wind power career in 2004 at manufacturer Bonus Energy, which later became part of Siemens Wind Power and then Siemens Gamesa. He served as CEO of the company’s offshore wind division from 2014 to 2018.
Hannibal joined CIP as a partner in 2018 and has “played a leading role in large-scale offshore wind projects across Europe, Asia and the US”, Stiesdal Offshore said.
CIP owns a minority stake in Stiesdal Offshore.
Stiesdal Offshore – founded by wind power pioneer Henrik Stiesdal – designs floating offshore wind platforms, and aims to offer services that enable project development.
Hannibal said he joins the company “at a crucial time in the development of floating offshore wind”.
Stiesdal Offshore added: “With experience from both the OEM and investor sides of the table, Michael offers a very strong combination of technical insight and business acumen. He has worked across the entire value chain – from turbine development and project execution to financing and partnerships.
“At Stiesdal Offshore, Michael steps into a key role helping to shape our market strategy, strengthen our partner network, and ensure commercial execution. His experience will help us deliver on our mission: to reduce cost and complexity in floating wind projects.”
