Nordex will supply 70 of its 6MW turbines to Swedish developer OX2 in a 472MW deal.
The German manufacturer will provide its N175/6.X wind turbines for two OX2 projects in western Finland. The turbines will be adapted for cold-climate conditions and feature 162-metre-high tubular steel towers.
It will provide 16 of the turbines for the 105MW Honkakangas project in Central Ostrobothnia and 54 turbines for the 367MW Rajamäenkylä project in South Ostrobothnia.
The wind farms are due online in 2027 and 2028 respectively.
Construction is due to start immediately.
OX2 has secured long-term debt financing agreements for the projects, as well as long-term power purchase agreements with a “multinational corporate offtaker”. OX2 declined to name the offtaker when asked by “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
A Nordex spokesperson told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç that the company’s cold-climate turbines include "special coolant in the generator" for "freeze protection down to -40C".
They added: "Seals are modified to handle low temperatures. The switch boxes and battery boxes are equipped with additional heaters. Special low-temperature materials are used for the rotor shaft. Gearbox and generator are already adapted to the cold climate variant conditions in the standard design."
