AI at every stage: Windey optimises the wind turbine lifecycle with DeepSeek

Windey has successfully integrated DeepSeek, a large AI model, into its proprietary big data platform at the Windey Cloud Computing Data Centre

18 March 2025

Aligning with broader industry trends to start leveraging AI-driven intelligence across the entire value chain, the Chinese wind turbine manufacturer created DeepSeek to enhance its decision-making across site selection, design, manufacturing and O&M.

What is DeepSeek?

According to Windey, DeepSeek-R1 is a high-performing AI model designed to optimise efficiency while maintaining a low-cost structure. One of its key strengths is its ability to function within a fully domestic computing environment. By running DeepSeek on domestic GPU clusters within Windey's Cloud Computing Data Centre, the OEM has created a closed-loop system intended to enhance both security and operational efficiency.

AI-powered insights from beginning to end

Windey states that DeepSeek will be applied throughout the entire lifecycle of a wind power project, from site selection to long-term maintenance. Key applications include:

  • Site selection: AI analyses large-scale meteorological and geographic data to guide wind farm placement, assessing wind resource distribution across different terrains.

  • Turbine design: AI-driven validation models optimise blade design, enhancing aerodynamic efficiency and increasing energy output.

  • Manufacturing: AI predicts raw material needs, improves supply chain efficiency, and reduces emergency stock costs, ensuring stable production.

  • Operations and maintenance: AI processes multi-source data, such as sensor and oil monitoring information, to predict equipment degradation and prevent failures. It also supports troubleshooting, streamlining wind turbine commissioning and fault resolution.

  • Windey’s digital transformation and future outlook

Windey continues to advance its digital transformation by integrating AI, big data, and cloud computing into wind power operations. A structured data governance framework enables more effective data collection and analysis across the wind power lifecycle.

The company is expanding AI applications in areas such as machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and robotics. These efforts have earned Windey industry recognition, including titles such as ‘Zhejiang Future Factory’ and ‘Cloud Manufacturing Enterprise of Zhejiang.’

Looking ahead, Windey is strengthening partnerships with key technology providers, including Huawei, Alibaba Cloud, and CloudShore Technology, to further enhance AI-driven solutions in wind energy. AI is central to its vision of 'bit-driven watts'—using digital intelligence to maximise renewable energy efficiency.

Through continued technological innovation, Windey aims to drive the green energy transition, positioning AI as a fundamental tool in the future of wind power.
