Ørsted commissions Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm in German North Sea

Ørsted and Nuveen Infrastructure’s 253MW Gode Wind 3 offshore wind farm is now operational.

Final testing of the German North Sea wind farm was completed on 28 February. It consists of 23 of Siemens Gamesa's 11MW wind turbines with rotor diameters of 200 metres. This model is currently the largest operational wind turbine in German waters, Ørsted said.

Ørsted acquired the project from PNE before securing a power deal for it at auction in 2018.

The Danish company then sold a 50% stake to funds managed by Nuveen Infrastructure (formerly Glennmont Partners) in December 2023. Construction began in August 2023, with the first turbine producing power back in May 2024.

It is Ørsted’s fifth operational offshore wind farm in Germany.

Ørsted trialled a foundation installation method at Gode Wind 3, that it claims could make the process quieter and more environmentally friendly. Its technology sends a jet to the seabed, which lowers resistance to the monopile as it enters the ground – effectively allowing the foundation to sink into the surrounding soil, it said.
