Skyborn commissions long-delayed Taiwan offshore wind farm

The 640MW Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan is now fully operational after facing years of delays, according to project co-owner Skyborn Renewables.

Skyborn announced today (3 February) that all wind turbines are now producing electricity at the site around 10km off the coast of Yunlin in the Taiwan Strait.

The project comprises 80 of Siemens Gamesa's 8.0-167DD turbines and delivered first power in 2021. The power purchaser is the Taiwan Power Company.

It was initially expected to be completed in 2020, but has been hit by challenges related to the Covid-19 pandemic, supply chain disruption, shortages of some resources, and monopile installation

Yunlin is co-owned by Skyborn (25%), French oil major TotalEnergies (23%), plus Sojitz Corporation, Chugoku Electric Power, Chudenko Corporation, Shikoku Electric Power and Eneos Corporation, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.

Taiwan is targeting 5GW of offshore wind capacity by the end of 2025, and currently has around 2.6GW of fully operational offshore wind farms.
