Equinor reaches financial close on Empire Wind 1 offshore wind farm

Norwegian oil firm Equinor has reached financial close on the 810MW Empire Wind 1 offshore project it is developing in the US. 

The company confirmed on Thursday (2 January) that the offshore wind farm would be backed by a financial package totalling more than $3 billion. 

Empire Wind 1 is located in the Atlantic Ocean around 24km off the coast of Long Island, New York, and is due to come online in 2027. 

Equinor confirmed last year that Danish manufacturer Vestas would supply wind turbines for the wind farm. 

The Danish manufacturer, which was pre-selected by Equinor back in 2021, will supply 54 of its V236-15.0MW turbines to the project. 

Under the deal, it will deliver the turbines in 2026 service them for five years foillowing commissioning.
