Chinese manufacturing firm CRRC will install a prototype for its planned 20MW wind turbine in 2025.
The wind turbine manufacturer confirmed the news at the WindEnergy Hamburg conference in Germany (24-27 September), where it unveiled its plans for the 20MW turbine earlier this week.
CRRC’s 20MW wind turbine is designed specifically for floating offshore wind projects.
It has a maximum blade tip height of 320 metres and a swept area of 53,000m2. It will be able to generate 40kWh of electricity per rotation at full load wind speed, according to the company.
A spokesperson for CRRC told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç the company had not received any commercial orders for the 20MW turbine so far.
Coming less than a month after Mingyang installed its 20MW offshore wind prototype, CRRC’s new unit is the latest example of Chinese wind energy OEMs developing ever larger offshore turbines.
