Romania sets price ceilings for first 1.5GW wind and solar auction

Romania has set the maximum price ceilings for its first onshore wind and solar tender, as it looks to award power deals for 1.5GW of renewables by the end of the year.

Onshore wind developers will be able to bid for contracts for difference (CfDs) worth up to €82/MWh, while bidding for solar PV projects will be capped at €78/MWh, according to a new posting in the government’s official gazette.

The government will offer 15-year contracts for 1GW of onshore wind and 500MW of solar projects. It aims to have signed power deals by the end of this year.

It is yet to confirm exact dates for the bidding window, but intends to invite bids between mid-November and mid-December.

The government plans to hold a 3.5GW tender in the third quarter of 2025.

Wind and solar developers will bid separately from one another in the round.

The auction scheme is being backed by the European Commission with a €3 billion grant from its modernisation fund.

Romania currently has just over 3.1GW of operational onshore wind power capacity, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
