First power from Canada’s largest onshore wind farm

Canada’s largest onshore wind farm has delivered first power to the grid. More than a third of the Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ (CIP) 495MW Buffalo Plains project in Alberta has been installed.

The first turbine at the project was installed in April 2024. Installation is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024, followed by full grid connection.

Buffalo Plains will consist of 83 Siemens Gamesa turbines with a total capacity of 495MW. The project is being delivered with the turbine manufacturer and Borea Construction.

CIP, a Danish fund manager, has more than 29GW of renewables assets in development, construction or operation in North America.

Its Buffalo Plains project is the largest operational wind farm in Canada, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
