Siemens Gamesa has launched production of nacelles for its 14MW offshore wind turbines at its newly expanded facility in Taichung, Taiwan.
Nacelles for all of the 73 wind turbines needed for the 1,022MW Hai Long offshore wind project will be manufactured at the recently expanded plant, a Siemens Gamesa spokesperson told “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
Once completed, this wind farm will be the largest in the Asia-Pacific region – outside China, they added. The final phases are due to be completed in 2025, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
Siemens Gamesa has already installed around 1.4GW of offshore wind turbins in Taiwan. The company has also signed firm orders for more projects totaling another 2GW. It had installed turbines with power ratings of 4MW, 6MW and 8MW at already-commissioned Taiwanese offshore wind farms, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
“We are collaborating with different tower suppliers, such as CS Wind Taiwan and Ching Fong or CS Wind Vietnam,” the spokesperson added. “We are sourcing blades from our global manufacturing footprints.”
Recently appointed CEO Vinod Philip inaugurated the factory.
Siemens Gamesa said the factory marks a “historic expansion beyond Europe”.
