Commercial operations have begun at the 177MW Wayra Extension wind farm in southern Peru.
The project consists of 30 of Nordex’s 5.9MW turbines.
The Wayra Extension is the second largest wind farm in Peru in its own right.
When counted with the initial 132MW project, the Wayra complex is the South American country’s largest wind farm.
Following Enel’s sale of its generation assets in Peru to investment firm Actis earlier this year, Wayra is now owned and operated by Actis’ local subsidiary Orygen.
The company operates 600MW of solar and wind capacity in Peru, representing 40% of the country’s non-conventional renewable capacity.
Executives have said that the company plans to invest up to $1 billion in 900MW of renewable projects in Peru in the next four to five years.
