UK renewables tender expected to remain on track despite election

The UK’s ongoing sixth contracts for difference (CfD) renewable energy tender is not expected to last beyond this summer, despite prime minister Rishi Sunak scheduling a general election for early July, the government has confirmed.

Successful bidders are currently expected to have signed power deals and returned them by mid-August – though the auction could be concluded as late as early October if appeals are made.

“During the election period, essential business, including routine business necessary to ensure the continued smooth functioning of government and public services, must be allowed to continue,” the government stated.

The government raised maximum strike prices for offshore wind contracts in the auction.

Offshore wind developers avoided the previous round with industry players citing low price ceilings.
