GE Vernova to supply turbines for 760MW wind farm in Spain

GE Vernova is due to supply Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners with its 6.1MW turbines for an approximately 760MW wind farm in Spain.

It is due to deliver, install and commission 125 of its 6.1-158 turbines for the Teruel wind farm, in a deal worth more than $700 million.

Spanish firm Forestalia is developing the project for CIP – which fully owns Teruel – until the wind farm is ready to build.

Construction of the project in Aragon and Comunidad Valenciana, in the east of the country, is due to begin shortly – though one final permit is needed before this can start.

The wind farm is due online in 2026.

GE Vernova will also service the turbines for 15 years after commissioning.

The order was booked in the fourth quarter of 2023, but only announced this week (28 May).

GE Vernova plans to make blades at its factory in Castellón and turbine towers at its factories in Albacete, Burgos and Galicia.

CIP has already committed all of the necessary funds to start construction. It plans to invest about €1 billion in the construction of the wind farm and a further €1.4 billion in operation and maintenance costs throughout the lifetime of the project.

Spain aims to have 62GW of wind power capacity by 2030, up from just over 30.5GW today, according to “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç Intelligence, the research and data division of “uåX˜äŠÊ˜·³Ç.
