Ørsted launches 'first US-built' service operations vessel for offshore wind

Ørsted and Louisiana-based shipbuilder Edison Chouest Offshore (Eco) have completed what the companies say is the first-ever US-built, -owned and -crewed offshore wind service operations vessel (SOV).

The 80-metre vessel, Eco Edison, will be a floating home base for 60 offshore wind technicians in the US north-east.

It will be key in the operations and maintenance for Ørsted and Eversource’s 132MW South Fork Wind, 704MW Revolution Wind and 924MW Sunrise Wind projects. Eversource is due to sell its stakes in the projects.

The Eco Edison was built in Louisiana, Mississippi and Florida.
